ABOUT ME
Hi, I'm Nik
Tireless seeker of knowledge,
occasional purveyor of wisdom
and also, coincidentally, a web designer
Hey there! I'm a designer working remotely from the evergreen
Portland, Oregon.
OVER THE PAST 7 YEARS
I've worked in various areas of digital design, including front-end development, logo creation, 3D modeling, motion graphics, videography, photo editing, and app UX/UI. I'm proud to have worn many hats.
These days, my time is spent researching, designing, prototyping, and connecting with clients. I also help small businesses get started building their first website.
AFTER HOURS
You’ll find me dreaming of playing the trumpet, saving houseplants, and becoming a cat whisperer.
Let's collaborate if you're committed to accessibility, education, equality, or a greener future.
I believe the point of all design is to improve the lives of others; my goal is to contribute in whatever way I can. If you feel the same, I'd love to talk.
Let's connect
Designing for a more human and empathetic world
01
Be Curious
Keeping an open mind is essential to solving the problem you have, not inventing a problem you want to design for. Analyze the explicit data that comes from good research and observe the implicit data that comes from good listening.
02
Collaborate
Great design is not created in a vacuum but rather in a shared space. It must be iterated upon as a team. I include stakeholders in my design process and create a collaborative environment that welcomes and encourages feedback.
03
Accessible FTW
Accountability in accessibility is for the good of all. Small adjustments can make a big impact in making sure no user is left behind. It's not a question of "if". Accessible products benefit the many, not the few.
04
Keep Growing
Everything I create is subject to change and experimentation. Any knowledge I gain can shape me into a better solution-seeker. Not everything will work, but it's worth trying - and learning from what doesn't.
IF YOU WANT TO KNOW MORE...

Before I became fully immersed in the world of digital design, I worked in the performing arts. Designing for the theatre pushed me to consider the practical aspects of design in a 3D space. Artistic choices are justified by a character’s lifestyle, relationships, class, history, and personality. Concepts turn into sketches or mockups that must be presented (and defended) to a multi-disciplinary team of designers and directors. Every design aspect needs to meet a standard of functionality and fit aesthetically into the big picture.

Incorporating these constraints into my work challenged me to be a much more well-rounded designer. I began to identify and anticipate pain points before they came to pass or affected the budget. I had to be flexible and resourceful when big changes were implemented- oftentimes the day before or day of a live performance. I even picked up on how to troubleshoot and fix niche software in the theatre world used by scenic and lighting designers.

Working with the digital technology aspect of theatre design gave me a newfound appreciation for the artistry that goes into designing digital systems. Realizing I had a knack for problem-solving, I pivoted back towards the world of UX/UI and web development to focus on building something that improves the lives of others. I wanted to contribute to something that lasts, beyond the run of a show or length of a season. Now, I strive to be a part of a world where humanity is essential to design.

To create experiences that are impactful, intuitive, and perhaps, even a bit delightful.
Outside work, I enjoy making a good espresso at home, listening to podcasts, creating costumes and props from scratch, and playing best-selling video games 5 years after they’ve peaked in popularity.
